Since 2003, NJHMFA has championed energy efficiency and green building practices for Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program projects in New Jersey. ENERGY STAR certification has been a continuing threshold requirement in the QAP, helping to create buildings that are 15 to 30% more efficient than those built to code.

Over time, Green Points have been added to the QAP, first for solar voltaic and the Agency’s own Green Future Program, then for national programs such as the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Enterprise Green Communities and the National Green Building Standard. By adding Energy Benchmarking to the QAP in 2013, we have been collecting valuable insight into how multifamily buildings perform and use energy over time.
